“Thomas’ material went through the physics and the physiology in such a way that made sense – and I could tell by the way it was written that this material was put together by a vocal coach that really knew what they were doing.”
“I was looking for a good book that I could use to improve my singing. I ordered all these books from amazon.com, and of course I got your book as well (Can You Sing a HIGH C Without Straining?). I sent back all of the books but yours. This was the only book that actually made sense.”
“I’ve been seeing Tom on and off for the last 25 years. In all these years I’ve never looked for another teacher. Tom’s the best at what he does. It’s just amazing what he can do with your voice.”
“Training with Thomas has definitely strengthened my range – made it a lot better. It’s trained my ear too – going over each tiny little part in my songs.”
“If you’re looking for a vocal coach you should go to Thomas Appell because he’s helped me and I know he can help you too.”
“If you want to sound like Robert Plant, go see Thomas Appell.”
I was a bass in choir and had a range that was similar to what you would expect from a bass. It used to be that it was difficult to sing too many notes above middle C. I remember being able to sing to E4 above middle C, maybe F4 or F#4 on a good day, but there was no doubt that hitting that F#4 was something I had to strain for much of the time. There were quite a few songs that I wanted to sing that would just start touching into that range – and of course a lot of music that I really enjoyed was just unreachable.
“I was a little skeptical at first because there’s a lot of material similar to this that one can find. But Thomas’ material went through the physics and the physiology in such a way that made sense – and I could tell by the way it was written that this material was put together by a vocal coach that really knew what they were doing and would probably get very good results. When I read Thomas’ book, Can You Sing a HIGH C Without Straining?, it was very apparent to me that he had an understanding of the physics involved and that’s why it was so powerful.
Time-wise, what was the time frame for achieving the range that you demonstrated in the tune Wild Ride?
In terms of singing a HIGH C, a tenor HIGH C (C5), that came in the first half hour of training. Thomas and I went over the material and he showed me the technique to at least get to a HIGH C. And then once becoming familiar with that territory it wasn’t more than about three or four months that I would be able to sing the notes that I would hit in Wild Ride (F#5 in full voice).
After singing that HIGH C in the first half hour I realized that it was doable on a repetitive basis and that I could probably achieve an even larger range than that. Previous to reading Can You Sing a HIGH C Without Straining? and working with Thomas Appell I had thought that it was something you had to be born with, a genetic gift to be able to sing notes that high and I found out very quickly that’s not the case. It’s really a matter of training.”

“I was looking for a good book with the CD added (older version of HIGH C) that I could use to somehow improve my singing. So I went to the internet and was screening through amazon.com all the books – vocal instruction with CD added. So I ordered all these books – quite so many books that I got, and of course I got your book as well. I sent back all of the books but yours. And it was very easy to understand for me. This was the only book that actually made sense to me including the CDs and the examples that you have there (now embedded in the new digital format of the book – no more CDs) – it made sense to me.
I could understand what was happening – the way you explain the vocal cords and how they are somehow working. That was really nice. It’s the only book that has that explanation. There was this one sentence in your book which was important to me which said, “It’s possible to do it by yourself, but it’s almost impossible.” And that’s why I called you, and you called me back and here I am.”

“Thomas has been my only vocal coach for the past 25 years. All of these years I’ve never looked for another teacher. He’s the best at what he does!
Little Champ Finalist from Mumbai, India
I came to know about you through net. One day me and my uncle were surfing on net to find ways to increase vocal range and the first site we saw was yours so we thought of giving it a try. We went on your site – we heard some songs and saw some testimonials. Me and my uncle found it great – actually fantastic. My father had a word with you on the phone and I just came here. Training with you is my pleasure. I never ever dreamt of this that I would cross the seven seas and come the the USA for my vocal training – I never thought of it!
Of course I have really improved my tone on high notes. I’ve increased my range 8-10 notes in full voice. I was really not good before – I was really not good on my high notes. My voice used to shake and it used to shrill. It never used to sound that good. But now when I have recorded a song with you (My Dream) and in vocal technique lessons I just find myself sounding really nice – really rich. And I just thought that you are the best man for it!
Note: The first time I talked with Pawni, she called me on the phone from India after watching Dominique Gomez’s music video of the song “My Dream.” She was so excited she could barely contain herself saying, “Thomas, my girlfriends and I have been watching this video of the song ‘My Dream’ and I love it! You must teach how to sing this song!” Then I spoke with her father about flying to California to train. She trained for three weeks, 5 days per week, 2 hours per day and on the 4th week we recorded My Dream and she did a great job!
– Thomas Appell
“I’ve been training with Thomas Appell for about two years now. Before training with Thomas I could sing high notes but they were very weak. I often would go into falsetto and sing out of tune. But after training with Thomas I can sing much higher in full voice (without going into falsetto). We do a lot of ear training that helps me sing a lot more in tune. Now I can sing just as good live as I do in recordings. If you’re looking for a vocal coach you should go to Thomas Appell because he’s helped me and I know he can help you too.”
